XFR-S Super-Jag to Debut in November

Around this time last year there were spy shots of a high-performance version of the XF sedan that Jaguar has been developing.  Now reports from the UK indicate that the 542-horsepower XFR-S could be ready as early as November.  With an eye on the 552hp BMW M5 and 549hp Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG, the Jaguar XFR-S is expected to pick up where the 503hp XFR leaves off by incorporating the supercharged V8 engine from the XKR-S super-coupe.

Upgraded aero bits including bigger spoilers front and rear are also expected to come part of the package, along with larger rolling stock and (we would hope) enlarged brakes to help keep all that muscle in check.  Sources anticipate the XFR-S to be unveiled at the Los Angeles Motor Show in November before the year is out.

C-X75 Going from Concept to Reality

Jaguar confirmed that it plans to launch the remarkable C-X75 concept car as an exclusive hybrid supercar. Jaguar Orlando could not be more excited of this announcement.

Jaguar C-X75 will become the British marque’s most advanced model to date. The company expects the vehicle to offer performance on par with the fastest production cars on the market, while adopting cutting-edge technology that offers remarkable fuel economy. Jaguar expects this hybrid supercar to deliver incredibly low CO2 emissions while being able to achieve in excess of 200mph.

“People expect Jaguar to be innovators – that is when Jaguar is at its best,” said Adrian Hallmark, Jaguar Brand Director. “The C-X75 received an incredible reception as a concept car. We’ve been building on that momentum and there is a clear business case for this exclusive halo model. No other vehicle will better signify Jaguar’s renewed confidence and excellence in technological innovation than this.”

Project C-X75 will be the ultimate expression of Jaguar design and engineering innovation. This high-performance hybrid supercar will stay true to the initial concept design study that made its debut at the 2010 Paris motor show, while fulfilling requirements that allow it to be homologated for road use.

“We were always determined that the Jaguar C-X75 would be as striking on the road as it was in concept form,” said Ian Callum, Director of Design, Jaguar Cars. “This will be the finest looking and most innovative Jaguar ever produced. Even in the world of supercars, we can still produce the most beautiful.”

In an unprecedented move, Jaguar C-X75 will be developed in association with Williams F1 who will provide their engineering expertise in areas including aerodynamics, carbon composite manufacture and hybrid technologies. This association will be at the leading edge of British automotive engineering and innovation.

“Confirmation of this project today signposts Jaguar Land Rover’s continued determination to embrace new technologies,” said Jaguar Land Rover CEO, Dr Ralf Speth. “A supercar like the C-X75 is the logical choice to showcase cutting-edge design, intelligent use of new environmental technologies and motorsport-inspired performance.”

It also marks a new milestone in both companies’ histories as Jaguar Land Rover and Williams collaborate for the first time to produce one of the world’s highest performance and environmentally friendly supercars. The production of Jaguar C-X75 is expected to create more than one hundred highly-skilled jobs in the UK.

A direct technology transfer between elite motorsport and road-going production cars is key to the success of the C-X75. The supercar’s chassis will be made of carbon-fiber to create an incredibly lightweight, yet rigidly strong structure.

Aiding the transition from concept to production vehicle is the choice of powertrain. Jaguar continues to develop the use of the micro-turbine technology that was showcased in the original concept C-X75. Jaguar’s parent company Tata has taken a significant stake in Bladon Jets, and will develop this very advanced technology as a medium-term aspiration that will play a part in Jaguar cars of the future.

To bring Project C-X75 to showroom reality within the timescales of a conventional model program, an equally innovative powertrain had to be developed. The road-going supercar plans to use a state-of-the-art, small-capacity, highly-boosted internal combustion engine with one powerful electric motor at each axle.

“The engine’s compact size allows it to be mounted low in the car for optimum weight distribution and to retain the concept’s stunning silhouette. This plans to make the Jaguar C-X75 a bona fide hybrid supercar capable of electric running with an extensive Electric Vehicle range in excess of 30 miles,” explained Bob Joyce, Group Engineering Director, Jaguar Land Rover.

When the C-X75 supercar’s motors and combustion engine combine, it is expected to be one of the fastest production cars in the world, with an anticipated sub-three second 0-60mph time and an anticipated top speed in excess of 200mph. Crucially, this performance aims to be generated alongside incredibly low emissions, thanks to Project C-X75′s lightweight construction and cutting-edge powertrain technology.

Williams F1 has been at the forefront of motorsport engineering for three decades. The project engagement on Jaguar C-X75 is testament to the team’s ambitions and will bring together two leading lights of the UK motoring industry.

“Our new association with Jaguar Land Rover provides us with an exciting opportunity to work with one of the motoring world’s most famous and iconic brands,” said Sir Frank Williams, Chairman of Williams F1. “Williams has always considered itself an engineering company and so this project will allow us to combine our technical expertise to create something truly exceptional.”

Only 250 vehicles are planned to be built, each with an MSRP between approximately $1,100,000 and $1,500,000 depending on market and local taxes.

“Never before has the company launched such an ambitious, world-beating vehicle program,” said Carl-Peter Forster, CEO Tata Motors. “This is the Jaguar vehicle of the future. The opportunity for innovation like this in the UK is part of the reason Tata Motors invested in Jaguar, and it’s fantastic that products like the C-X75 can become reality.”

Jaguar Orlando will keep you posted on Jaguar C-X75 progress. And don’t forget to come in for a test drive in a long line of progressive models here on the lot. Summer drives are here!

Gas Prices Go Up Again: What to Do?

With the recent turmoil in the Middle East, we are hit again with aggressive fuel charges. The reality is fuel prices will continue to go up and down, and they will continue to rise. What do you do?

Fuel efficiency needs to come from all ends – manufacturers, dealers and drivers. Jaguar has been committed to fuel efficiency in more unique ways than most manufacturers. The XJ’s lightweight aluminum body construction is at the very core of Jaguar’s uncompromising focus on environmental responsibility. It’s a focus centered on using new materials that drive weight from its cars. It’s a focus on developing highly advanced engines that deliver remarkable efficiency and CO2 performance. And it’s a focus on improving Jaguar’s manufacturing processes to dramatically reduce energy use.

Ten years ago, Jaguar laid down a strategy for building more efficient cars with the development of a lightweight aluminum body structure. Advanced aluminum construction – based on aerospace methods - delivering a body with great strength and rigidity, but with dramatically reduced weight compared with steel. The result was the remarkable new XJ saloon in 2003 and the all-new XK sports car in 2006.

Everyone is not ready to go to a hybrid, so as a driver what can you do to support your wallet and the planet at the same time?

Here are some tips to help you reduce the amount of gas you use and getting the best gas mileage your car can deliver.

DRIVE MORE EFFICIENTLY

Drive Sensibly
Aggressive driving (speeding, rapid acceleration and braking) wastes gas. It can lower your gas mileage by 33 percent at highway speeds and by 5 percent around town. Sensible driving is also safer for you and others, so you may save more than gas money.safedriving_300x225

Observe the Speed Limit
While each vehicle reaches its optimal fuel economy at a different speed (or range of speeds), gas mileage usually decreases rapidly at speeds above 60 mph. You can assume that each 5 mph you drive over 60 mph is like paying an additional $0.24 per gallon for gas. Observing the speed limit is also safer.

Remove Excess Weight
Avoid keeping unnecessary items in your vehicle, especially heavy ones. An extra 100 pounds in your vehicle could reduce your MPG by up to 2 percent. The reduction is based on the percentage of extra weight relative to the vehicle’s weight and affects smaller vehicles more than larger ones.

Avoid Excessive Idling
Idling gets 0 miles per gallon. Cars with larger engines typically waste more gas at idle than do cars with smaller engines.

Use Cruise Control
Using cruise control on the highway helps you maintain a constant speed and, in most cases, will save gas.

Use Overdrive Gears
When you use overdrive gearing, your car’s engine speed goes down. This saves gas and reduces engine wear.

KEEP YOUR CAR IN SHAPE

Keep Your Engine Properly Tuned
Fixing a car that is noticeably out of tune or has failed an emissions test can improve its gas mileage by an average of 4 percent, though results vary based on the kind of repair and how well it is done.keep-your-car-in-shape

Fixing a serious maintenance problem, such as a faulty oxygen sensor, can improve your mileage by as much as 40 percent.

Keep Tires Properly Inflated
You can improve your gas mileage by up to 3.3 percent by keeping your tires inflated to the proper pressure. Under-inflated tires can lower gas mileage by 0.3 percent for every 1 psi drop in pressure of all four tires. Properly inflated tires are safer and last longer.

The proper tire pressure for your vehicle is usually found on a sticker in the driver’s side door jamb or the glove box and in your owner’s manual. Do not use the maximum pressure printed on the tire’s sidewall.

Use the Recommended Grade of Motor Oil
You can improve your gas mileage by 1–2 percent by using the manufacturer’s recommended grade of motor oil. For example, using 10W-30 motor oil in an engine designed to use 5W-30 can lower your gas mileage by 1–2 percent. Using 5W-30 in an engine designed for 5W-20 can lower your gas mileage by 1–1.5 percent. Also, look for motor oil that says “Energy Conserving” on the API performance symbol to be sure it contains friction-reducing additives.

Combining errands into one trip saves you time and money. Several short trips taken from a cold start can use twice as much fuel as a longer multipurpose trip covering the same distance when the engine is warm. Trip planning ensures that traveling is done when the engine is warmed-up and efficient, and it can reduce the distance you travel.

PLAN AND COMBINE TRIPS

Commuting

  • Stagger your work hours to avoid peak rush hours.
  • Drive your most fuel-efficient vehicle.
  • Consider telecommuting (working from home) if your employer permits it.plan-car-trips

Take advantage of carpools and ride-share programs. You can cut your weekly fuel costs in half and save wear on your car if you take turns driving with other commuters. Many urban areas allow vehicles with multiple passengers to use High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes which are typically less congested, further improving your fuel economy.

Traveling

A roof rack or carrier provides additional cargo space and may allow you to meet your needs with a smaller car. However, a loaded roof rack can decrease your fuel economy by 5 percent. Reduce aerodynamic drag and improve your fuel economy by placing items inside the trunk whenever possible.

Avoid carrying unneeded items, especially heavy ones. An extra 100 lbs in the trunk reduces a typical car’s fuel economy by 1-2 percent.

Jaguar C-X75 Range-extended Electric Supercar Is More Than a Concept

Jaguar unveiled the C-X75 Concept at the Paris Motor Show: “The aim was to produce not only the most innovative but also one of the most beautiful Jaguars ever; one which hints at an exciting evolution of the marque’s award-winning design language while paying homage to some of its most admired cars of years gone by.”

The result is the car you see above. The 2,970-pound C-X75 is “a range-extended electric supercar” that does the run from zero to 62 miles per hour in 3.4 seconds. That happens courtesy of two 96-horsepower micro gas turbines that pump juice into a plug-in li-ion battery pack. That in turn powers four 195-horsepower electric motors – one at each wheel – for a total of 780 horsepower and 1,187 pound-feet of torque. Top speed is pegged at 205 mph, and the concept can theoretically run on just its batteries for 68 miles before the twin turbines kick in and extend the range to 560 miles.

The body resting above all those electrons is aluminum, with swan doors allowing entry to the leather-lined cabin. The seats inside are fixed, with the steering wheel, instruments and pedals moving to accommodate the driver. Three high-res TFT screens present driver information, with readouts and displays switchable between all of the screens.

The C-X75 is a pure concept – there are no plans to make it according to Jaguar. The point, rather, is to show what kind of Jaguar might exist were such a cat unchained from any production consideration. Yet, although we won’t see the beast in its entirety, we could see its fangs and claws on a production Jag in the future.

However, Jaguar is now reportedly joining the list of those who took it all back – well, almost – by admitting it’s studying the production feasibility of what would become the X-75.

Never fear, the X-75 might exist on lot of Jaguar of Orlando. One can only hope! But we know that this concept will inspire Jaguar models years to come. What do you think?
